EpsXYSlices

Slices of the internal energy epsilon along the equatorial plane.

Shortly after starting the evolution the atmospheres of the neutron stars touch and turbulent structures develop from the shock fronts originating at the collision areas.

As the merger continues, the structures appear to evolve like a spiral galaxy; however, this merging neutron star is of course a very compact object.

All in all the newtonian simulation shows more than three orbits, which is quite further than can currently achieved with general relativistic hydrodynamic simulations.

Simulation: Philip Gressman ( WashU )
