RealNewton

Pseudo-realistic rendering of the newtonian simulation of the merger process. In blue-green the density is shown, in red/orange volumetric isolevels the turbulent flows of the internal energy.

Beside the impressing physics, some people were impressed that the ZIB visualization software required about 5 seconds to render one frame of this movie, whereas some other visualizations require a couple of hours to achieve similar images. Of course use of an hardware-accelerated high-end rendering machine (SGI Infinite Reality II) substantially supported this speed.

Simulation: Philip Gressman ( WashU )
